Duvet Covers Q&A
What is a duvet cover used for?
A duvet cover is a decorative, protective two-layer bedding piece that slips over your duvet insert or comforter—like a pillowcase for your duvet insert.
What are the benefits of using a duvet cover?
You can change your duvet cover style as often as you wish—they take up less space in the linen closet than storing seasonal bedding pieces. A duvet cover protects your duvet insert against spills, dirt, and stains, and you can simply wash the duvet cover—rather than the insert—on laundry day.
What do you put inside a duvet cover?
You can use a duvet insert or comforter—with either down or down alternative fill—inside your duvet cover.
Should a duvet insert be the same size as the duvet cover?
Duvet cover sizes correlate with bedding and duvet insert sizes: we offer Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, and King/California King options—choose based on your mattress size for the best fit. For a loftier look, you may use a duvet insert that is slightly larger than your duvet cover.
Can you put a comforter inside a duvet cover?
Duvet covers can be used with both duvet inserts and comforters, however, comforters may lack the corner ties that help keep a duvet insert from shifting.
How do you keep a comforter in a duvet cover?
If your comforter does not have corner loops and it shifts inside the cover, you can sew discreet loops to your comforter corners and attach them to the duvet cover’s corner ties for a secure fit.
How does a duvet cover close?
Many duvet covers—ours included—feature a button closure, which may be visible or hidden. Some duvet covers use a zipper closure.
Can you use a duvet cover by itself?
If you’re a hot sleeper or in warm weather, you may prefer to use your duvet cover without an insert—when used this way, the cover acts as a lightweight blanket.
